NATURE OF THE CASE: This was a dispute over jurisdictional double jeopardy.

FACTS: D was tried in federal court for robbing a federally insured savings and loan. D was acquitted. D was then subsequently indicted by an Illinois grand jury for the same crime. D was tried, convicted, and sentenced to life. The federal government played a significant role in the state trial by providing resources, information, evidence, and advice. D raised double jeopardy but the trial court rejected his plea of autrefois acquit.
