NATURE OF THE CASE: This was a dispute over statements coerced by the threat of lost employment.
FACTS: Ds were police officers in New Jersey that were investigated by the Attorney General concerning the alleged fixing of traffic tickets. Ds were read their rights and told that if they refused to answer they would be subject to removal from office. Ds answered the questions and no immunity was granted. The answers were entered into evidence at trial. Ds were convicted and appealed.
