NATURE OF THE CASE: Consolidated (D) appealed from a judgment, which ruled in favor Williams (P) in an action to recover a reward.
FACTS: D posted an offer of reward at work: 'Up to $ 5,000 reward is being offered by Consolidated Freightways for information leading to the arrest and conviction of any individual found stealing or concealing freight or other property from Consolidated Freightways. We feel that all employees should be trusted. However, a dishonorable act on the part of one individual can cast suspicion on the rest of us. It is our firm intention to quickly apprehend and prosecute any dishonorable person who may appear among us. All information will be held in strict confidence. P was a manager at D and after working hours figured out who the culprit was and turned him in and demanded the reward. D refused to pay. P sued D and won. D appealed.
