NATURE OF THE CASE: This was a dispute over a reward. This was an appeal of an order
holding that Reppert (D) was entitled to a reward offered for the arrest and conviction of
three bank robbers.
FACTS: Three armed men entered robbed a bank of over $30,000. Later in the day they were
apprehended by State Policemen Garret Godby, Johnny Simms and Tilford Reppert (D), placed
under arrest, and the entire loot was recovered. A large number of people wanted to get the
$1,500 reward posted by the Kentucky State Bankers Association for assisting in capturing
three bank robbers. The Association did not know what to do and asked the circuit court to
resolve who should get the reward. Claimants Murrell Denney, Joyce Buis, Rebecca McCollum
and Jewell Snyder were employees of the bank.
