BREUNIG v, AMERICAN FAMILY INS. CO.

NATURE OF THE CASE: This was an appeal from a judgment upon a jury verdict for Breunig
(P) in a negligence action.
FACTS: This action was brought against Mrs. Veith's automobile insurance company American
Family Ins. Co. (D), for an auto accident that Mrs. Veith was involved in. At trial, a
psychiatrist testified that Veith was suffering from schizophrenic reaction, paranoid type,
acute because she told him that while she was driving she believed God was taking a hold of
her steering wheel and was directing her car. When she saw the truck coming she stepped on
the gas in order to become airborne because she knew she could fly because Batman does. She
collided with Breunig's (P) truck. Her vehicle was on the left side (wrong side) of the road
at the time of the accident. The jury returned a verdict for Breunig (P) and D appealed.
