GAMMON V. OSTEOPATHIC HOSPITAL OF MAINE, INC.

      534 A.2d 1282 (1987)

NATURE OF THE CASE: This is a case to recover for negligent infliction of emotional
      distress.

FACTS: A bag sent from Osteopathic Hospital (D) supposedly had personal effects of
Gammon's (P) father, but rather had a bluish bloodied leg. P thought the hospital had cut
his father's leg off. P began having nightmares, and his relationship with his wife and
children deteriorated. P sought no medical or psychiatric attention. P claimed emotional
distress and the trial court gave a directed verdict. P appealed.
