NATURE OF THE CASE: Faulk (P) filed a motion for an order directing the clerk of the court to add interest on a verdict for compensatory damages from the date Aware (D) committed libel to the date of the verdict. D filed a motion to set aside a jury verdict awarding compensatory damages of $1,000,000 and punitive damages of $1,250,000 in P's libel action.
FACTS: Faulk (P) sued Aware (D) for libel when D's founder accused P of having communist sympathies and affiliations. The jury rendered a verdict of $1,000,000 against three Ds and $1,250,000 against D and another defendant. P filed a motion for pre-verdict interest and the court denied it. P appealed. Ds appealed the awards as excessive.
