NATURE OF THE CASE: This was a libel action where Aware (D) appealed the damages awards are being excessive.
FACTS: Faulk (P) sued Aware (D) for libel when D's founder accused P of having communist sympathies and affiliations. The jury rendered a verdict of $1,000,000 against three Ds and $1,250,000 against D and another defendant. Ds appealed the awards as excessive.
